Why is it that 20 miles per hour in a parking lot feels like warp speed and 20 miles per hour in a school zone feels like you're watching paint dry?

  1. In a parking lot you are surrounded by idiots who may at any moment spring out and crash into you so your senses are heightened and 20mph seems fast.
in a school zone you are aware that the worst that will happen is you may have to be stopped by a crossing guard. Your mind runs out of things to monitor and the 300 yards thru the school zone take forever.
