Just a quick story about M&M that I wanted to record here for posterity.
Sunday, I was about my business around the house trying to get progress made on some projects on the never ending DIY home improvement so we can sell it list. M&M was up and about needing some entertainment. Somehow that escapes my memory now, she found herself sitting very proper in the middle our king sized bed asking to watch Finding Nemo (her second favorite movie after Wall*E).
So, I sat down on the edge of the bed to run the DVD through its start up to get the movie going. I had only intended to sit there for a moment while the movie started before resuming work.
Yeah....that didn't quite work out as planned.
You see, M&M started scooting and butt wiggling her way from the middle of the bed until she was in snuggle range at which time she leaned up against me and proceeded to get comfy.
What's a daddy to do? I threw my arm around her, and we snuggled in to watch the movie for a bit.
So much for getting stuff done around the house.

See, the thing is, if I were a chick I'd say, "Ah...that's so sweet." But, seeing as how I'm a dude I'll just say, "Man, that's great."
ReplyDeleteStephen, I don't mean to quibble since you're being complimentary, but I think you actually said the lines for both chicks and dudes there. Having said that, it was a great moment.
DeleteDH - since i'm not suffering from Stephen's affliction of being a man, i'll say it - "Ah...that's so sweet!". and it IS. some days are not about getting a ton of jobs off the honey-do list...some days are about making memories that you will never regret! you're a good daddy!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
(say hello to The Queen for me!)
kymber, thanks. I try hard. My goal is simply to be a better Daddy to M&M than either of her grandfathers were for The Queen or me. That's not intended as a slight towards either one of them either.
DeleteI'll bet you $100 (adjusted for inflation) that in a 10 years, you won't be able to name the DIY project but this memory will be sharp and clear.
ReplyDeleteAll too soon they grow up, nice to see a man who knows it is important to cherish the moments when you can.

3 Boxes of BS
Bob, no bet. Growing up, Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle" was a song that spoke to me quite a bit (probably because of my parents' divorce and the limited time I had with my father). I promised myself that I would never be "that" dad. So far, I think I'm doing okay at it.
Deleteprojects can wait. +1 to 3boxes, you will remember that moment for the rest of your life.
ReplyDeleteSenior, agreed. Congrats again on your new armory addition.
DeleteRelish it while you can, I understand that before too long it'll be uncool to be seen with Daddy. Instead of rushing off, I have to remind myself of this quite often.
ReplyDeleteK, I will cherish every second. I assure you of that. We'll have to see if the uncool part ever rears its ugly head though.
